Poetry Friday: Jeanne Jugan

Saint Jeanne Jugan day is coming up on August 30th.

Jeanne Jugan was a French peasant woman who lived in the late 1800s. She dedicated herself to looking after the elderly poor who had nobody else to turn to. She later founded the Little Sisters of the Poor.

I learned about her while researching my family history—turns out she is a distant cousin.

“Be kind, especially with the infirm,” she said. “Love them well ... Oh yes! Be kind. It is a great grace God is giving you. In serving the aged, it is he himself whom you are serving.”

I explored her life and teachings in the short story Epiphany.
